“In the Priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came unto John the Son of Zacharias in the wilderness.” Luke 3:2

So where exactly was John when he received this word of God? Was he in the Priesthood, or a part of the Priesthood, and were they in the temple, or all in the wilderness together? We can wonder about these questions, reasoning within ourselves what the answers may be, but if we search the word of God we find that John was with God in the wilderness, desert of Judea, and similar to this David and others were also alone with God when they received the word of God about their situations and callings, As we read,

As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.” Luke 3:4

“And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and shouted for the battle.” 2Samuel 17:20

See it was during the time of the Priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas that this occurred, but the reference indicates that John was a part of their Priesthood and at some time a partaker of this ministry, and God chose to speak to him in the wilderness of Judea because of his close relationship to God.

Imagine how much more we would actually hear from God if we were to press in to God to be closer to him! Many times as Christians we want to hear from God, but we only need to get closer to God and be a part of His Priesthood so that we will hear from him. If we are stray sheep, distant followers, or part-time pursuers how then can we expect to receive all that God desires for us?

When we draw near to God he will draw near to us and show us great and mighty things, as we read,

“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” Jeremiah 33:3

God will send his word to you and heal your land, as we read,

“Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses. He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. Psalm 107:19, 20
Get closer to God and the word of God will come to you!

<![CDATA[THE WISE MESSENGER!]]>Wed, 13 Dec 2017 09:41:03 GMThttp://carymcquaid.com/daily-devotional/the-wise-messenger6344930Picture

“Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves; be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” Mathew 10:16

Let me first say, we are different, those who are in Christ Jesus are different. Let me explain that. For us who love him, the very mention of His name stops the world! It evokes within us a panting of our heart, the world ceases for that moment until he restarts it again and this is when all becomes new! We are different, we do not follow man’s ways. Yes it is true, we are in this world, but we are not of this world, we do not think as the majority of the world thinks, nor as those that are following the not so wise wisdom of this time, instead we follow the wisdom of God, as we read,

“And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in the demonstration of the spirit and of power, that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of man, but in the power of God.” 1Corinthians 2:4, 5

Our faith is in the power of God and we know that His power far exceeds anything that man can do! Now we have been sent out into this world with His power, we are different than others because of Jesus, because of who he is and who we are in him. Now many will try to make us to be ordinary, but we are not!

“If any are in Christ Jesus they are new creatures, behold old things are passed away, all things have become new! 2Corinthians 5:17

We are not as ordinary as some would like us to be, and why is it that they would like this? So they do not have to look within their heart and make a decision for Jesus every time that we are in their presence. Notwithstanding the day of decision will come.

“He that heareth you, heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.” Luke 10:16

<![CDATA[TRUSTING GOD!]]>Mon, 11 Dec 2017 13:41:37 GMThttp://carymcquaid.com/daily-devotional/trusting-godPicture

“Commit thy way unto God. Trust also in him and he will bring it to pass.” Psalm 37:5

What is your way today? The plans that you have for today as with any day for the future have the desire to be successful, yet there are no guarantees that success will come. All too often we will lean to our own understanding even though we are repeatedly instructed not to, as we read,

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5

So we might continue to act or react in ways that might seem right to us, but ultimately lead to destruction, as we read,
“There is a way which seemeth right unto man, but the end thereof are ways of death. Proverbs 14:12

How terrible it is that we can put ourselves in this spin cycle where we simply are doing the same things expecting a different result time and time again, and failing time and time again!

You have all heard of the quote by the British Educational writer William Edmund Hickson,

“If at first you don’t succeed, try, and try again!”

While there is much encouragement in this quote, the truth is it fails to bring attention to the right way to success. Because many are of the thought that if they just keep trying they will eventually make it, but we all need to understand that unless we exchange our ways for God’s tried and true ways we will simply be repeating all that we have failed at so many times before.

The sure way of success is right before us! As we read,

“Commit thy way unto the Lord!”

!!This requires that we also choose his ways to be our ways!! In other words we cannot imagine to rob a bank and be successful at it merely because we talked to God first and committed this to him. God would never grant success, because this is not his way. God’s ways are righteous and not unrighteous and law breaking!

So our ways must be righteous also! And when they are and then they are committed unto God, then his unfailing promise to bring them to pass will always prevail. God will surely bring them to pass!

This is truly trusting God!

<![CDATA[GROWING UNTO MATURITY!]]>Thu, 07 Dec 2017 09:39:37 GMThttp://carymcquaid.com/daily-devotional/growing-unto-maturity9427883Picture

"And I brethren, could not speak unto you, as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able." 1Corithians 3:1, 2

Many have received and understand the first principles of Christianity, the acceptance of Jesus into their heart, the Baptism by immersion, and the first principles of prayer and praise, but all too often there is little or no follow-up or continuance in the study of the word towards maturity.

Paul is talking to the Corinthians in a way that is scolding them a little because he had been so long with them, yet they did not take the extra steps to show a motivation or desire towards growth. They were proud of their knowledge and the amounts of the Bible that they knew, but the application of the word of God was absent.

They were still arguing and fighting, biting and devouring each other, and not walking in unity or maturity. Gossip and evil intent still filled their hearts even while they were calling themselves Christian. In fact, they were Christian, but babes in Christ, still drinking from the bottle and not yet eating the meat of the word of God and putting love into action. In all things there is a training period, but there is also a time in which we are to move to the next level.

Having studied the words of Christ and partaken in the wisdom of God it is now time to apply it to our lives and be doers of the word. As it is written,

"But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves." James 1:22
"But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory, both now and forever, amen." 2Peter 3:18
Father, forgive us our sins and let us grow in grace and maturity and love, so that we are forever united together with you.
Thank you Jesus, you are Holy, and true. Amen!

<![CDATA[PRAISING THE LORD!]]>Wed, 06 Dec 2017 09:41:18 GMThttp://carymcquaid.com/daily-devotional/praising-the-lord3616320Picture

"Let the people praise thee, O God, let all the people praise thee. Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us." Psalm 67:5, 6

Let's suppose you have recently placed your children on some type of punishment for breaking the rules or not doing their chores. How long do you think that you could withhold good things from your son(s) or daughter(s) if during their punishment, they continually begin to compliment you and honor you and express their sincere admiration for how well you train them and instruct them in the ways of righteousness? What if they came to you every morning and told you how great you really are and how much they appreciate all that you do for them?

Really, this could happen…

Ok, so what if it did happen this way? If you were given a bonus in your pay at work would you plan a special event for them because they have made you proud, or if you had some extra time in the day would you make plans to spend it with them blessing them with your love? Yes, of course!

The point here is there is a proven formula that will move God to bless us. If we follow the example that are children have set for us in this scenario then we will also be blessed by God and share in the earth's increase as we show our appreciation for Him and as we praise Him for His goodness to us!

Cause and Effect is something that Thomas Aquinas mentioned in His Summa Theologica, but it is really so simple, if we cause our heart's and voices to appreciate God through praise then effect will be that we will be blessed and our land will yield it's increase, but if we complain and withhold praise from God then we will receive nothing! Give praise to God today!

<![CDATA[GOD DELIGHTS IN YOU!]]>Sun, 03 Dec 2017 12:09:52 GMThttp://carymcquaid.com/daily-devotional/god-delights-in-you4333581Picture

"For the Lord God will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know I shall not be ashamed." Isaiah 50:7

The scrolling banner reads, "I HAVE SET MY FACE LIKE A FLINT!" Can you say this? Are you taking a stand for what you believe? There will be times in your life that you will have to take a stand and stand therefore having put on the whole armor of God. Unfortunately, there are some powers out there that would love to see us fail, this is a fact and the old phrases "buck up" or "take the bull by the horn" are required.

The reaching down inside for a bit more stubbornness and refusal to quit is necessary.

This is the message that needs to be sent and God is with you! Just like a tree planted by the waters I shall not be moved. What a horrible message for our adversary! Just when it seemed that he might be prevailing, we come back with a powerful punch!

God is powerful! Take heart a new thing is coming to you as we speak. God is at work and re-enforcements have been dispatched into this fight. Stand firm and let God take the wheel! The shame shall be redirected and this egg shall be on your adversary's face.

Remember the stone in which the builders have rejected? This stone has become the chief cornerstone, Jesus is this stone that has been rejected so many times!

"And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder." Luke 20:17, 18

God is on your side, he has seen your struggles and pains. Stand strong because he will not allow you to be put to shame!

Today, put your enemies on official notice by saying.

Let God help you today by letting go and giving the battle to him.

You Shall Not Be Moved!

"Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for he is faithful that promised." Hebrews 11:23

“Has Jesus said it? Will he not do it? God is true and let every man be the liar.” Numbers 23:19.

Jesus will do as he says, we can be confident that God is true to his word. This is our profession of faith and without faith it is impossible to please him. Hebrews 11:6.

Jesus came from heaven to the earth to show us the way, he died so that we may live with him for eternity. All that we are we owe to him. This is our
profession of faith.

Our hope for the future is in him! With him we live! As the song says,

"My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness, I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus name! On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand, ALL other ground is sinking sand!"

Hold fast your profession of faith, be determined to stand strong and tell the world there is reason for hope. Jesus lives and Jesus saves!

"When all around my soul gives way, he then is all my hope and stay. On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand, ALL other ground is sinking sand.”

There is no other like Jesus, Jesus is true! If you haven't received Jesus into your heart and life, call to him and he will come in!

<![CDATA[A GUIDE FOR LIFE!]]>Mon, 27 Nov 2017 12:58:40 GMThttp://carymcquaid.com/daily-devotional/a-guide-for-lifePicture

“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” Psalm 32:8

So some time ago I watched a 60 minutes show on T.V. that told of a woman that got lost in the desert by following her GPS that she had become accustom to using for direction. Can I tell you that this can be very dangerous, trusting technology, or any other worldly device or system to lead us through life!

How many know that God is great and much greater even than GPS?

The Global Positioning System or GPS as it is referred to, provides all users with positioning, navigational, and timing information while the user is on their journey. However, unlike our God GPS can sometimes be unreliable, as it was in the story above. It’s true our GPS cannot always be trusted! While GPS maintains a 96% performance rating there is still that 4% of the time that it is unreliable, inaccurate, and therefore puts doubt into the traveling experience.

Can I tell you though that there is no error in God! His word is 100% accurate at all times! His directions are always reliable! When we seek God and his leading he can always be trusted to be without error!

Always wherever we go God’s word will lead us, as we read,

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105

We can trust God! God’s word is ever faithful to lead us! As we read,

“When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou wakest, it shall walk with thee.” Proverbs 6:22

So let me ask you…

What GPS is there that will be at your side wherever you journey? What GPS will keep you safe wherever you go? What GPS will lead you without error when you go?

Only God’s word can be trusted to do this!

His word is true and faithful!

We will never be confused because God’s word is faithful to lead us 100% of the time without error! Always!

<![CDATA[FOWLS OF THE AIR!]]>Tue, 21 Nov 2017 13:00:14 GMThttp://carymcquaid.com/daily-devotional/fowls-of-the-airPicture

“A sower went out to sow seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.” Luke 8:5

God wants to establish you, because in you is his light, his word, his life, and his glory! God knows that if you are established here on this earth you will bring glory to his name and his name will be lifted high in all the land through all that you do. This will be great to see his name lifted high! But see, the enemy knows this too!

These terrible fowls of the air seek to devour all that is good, and all that is God in your life. You plant his word, sowing seeds of righteousness, and immediately another comes along to steal or diminish its value to others.

Remember God wants to establish you for his glory! But there are many that seek their own gain and would have no part in bringing glory to God, only to themselves, pleasing men and not God, as we read,

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.” John 10:10a

Not with eye service, as men pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart.” Ephesians 6:6

Fowls of the air work hard to prevent God’s glory, these are those that in their own understanding believe that they are doing good, but they cannot see that they are only attempting to receive the glory of men. Glory that belongs to God is stolen away by these.
By seeking to exalt themselves they stand in the way of giving glory to God so that little is known or witnessed of God’s greatness. But God will always prevail!

“But I have come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly!” John 10:10b

“Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Psalm 37: 1, 2

<![CDATA[WAITING ON GOD!]]>Mon, 20 Nov 2017 12:39:39 GMThttp://carymcquaid.com/daily-devotional/november-20th-2017Picture

“Wait on the Lord: Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” Psalm 27:14

Now it is that we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and will return soon, as we read,
“For the lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the Archangel, and with the trump of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first.” 1Thessalonians 4:16

On this Holy week, and always we should know that Jesus is returning soon, and we who are waiting on God will always tell of his mighty strength, and rejoice in his loving kindness toward us! He is our joy! And he is coming soon! Is it possible that Jesus might come at a time in which we are remembering his resurrection? No one knows the day or the hour, as we read,

"But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.” Mathew 24:36

Jesus gave of himself that we might be delivered from this world. The giving of himself means that he bestowed a gift on us, his gift of grace from the Father has been bestowed upon us and his grace is not in vain! Jesus poured out his love on us that we might be saved!
We shall not all sleep, but shall soon be changed into his incorruptible image. Glory to God! He is coming soon! Will he find faith when he comes?

Yes absolutely, because faith and unbelief cannot and will not be missed together, diluting our faith in him! Our faith in Jesus must remain pure!

This is the time, the Rapture hour where our Lord and King looks down upon his beloved body and knows that we have kept the faith, and will soon see his coming!

King Jesus Come! Sound the trumpet aloud for all to hear! Jesus is coming soon!

God is gathering all of his elect from the four corners of the earth and soon we shall see him, as we read,

“Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when he is revealed, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.” 1John 3:2
