“And seek not ye what ye shall eat, and what ye shall drink, neither be ye of a doubtful mind;” Luke 12:29

Yesterday we talked a little about asking a blessing, and knocking at the door to receive, but today we must consider the most critical part, and that is seeking, and how we are to seek. If we are asking for a blessing, and we go further into knocking on the doors that we believe will reveal that blessing to us, we need to understand this seeking portion that we are participating in.

It is one thing to ask for a blessing, and even another thing to knock on the doors that we believe will reveal a blessing, and waiting for them to open, but a much more critical and huge things remains, and we must learn this!

Now why can’t we just ask anyone, or knock on all doors? Why do we have to understand this seeking part? It may seem complicated, time consuming, and even arduous, but it is key to getting it right, and to receiving what is good, as we read,

“But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.” Luke 12:33

If we truly want what we are seeking, we must seek for it in the right place, and from the right God that is able to give it to us! Not the way that seems right, but the way that is absolutely right, and that way is through Jesus alone! No other name, but the name of Jesus, and no other place, but the Kingdom of God!

Say this with me, “Oh no, not I” I will not go to another! Only Jesus can give to me what I seek! If we are to seek amiss then we should receive nothing, and our labor is in vain, as we read,

“Labor not for the meat which perishes, but for that meat which endures unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.” John 6:27
“But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19

<![CDATA[THE MIGHTY OAK!]]>Mon, 16 Oct 2017 11:54:52 GMThttp://carymcquaid.com/daily-devotional/the-mighty-oakPicture

“But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty.” 1Corinthians 1:27

It was the last tree I would have imagined that would fall, however this seventy five foot Oak Tree that was, at one time the center piece, a huge display of power and glory, and a magnificent picture of beauty in my back yard FELL! It was no match for Hurricane Irma which bested the Mighty Oak and so many other trees in my neighborhood, yet many trees such as the Palm trees had bent with the wind and humbled themselves and lived.

How many lessons can we learn from this? Hmm, I began to ponder what they might be, Oh there are a few for sure.

One thing that I learned about the mighty Oak tree is that it often becomes "top heavy" and so strong and stiff, not flexible at all. Like the mighty Oak we also can become so rigid and haughty that we will never lower ourselves to respect the winds of change that are coming at us. We must be on our guard for this as God has warned us,

“For whosoever exalts himself shall be abased, yet whosoever humbles themselves they shall be exalted.” Luke 11:14

“Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” Proverbs 16:18

Getting “Top Heavy” takes out all of the flexibility in life to relate to others, and sets us above them in our own minds, this is just the beginning of the storm that is coming. When we learn that we might be getting “top heavy” (prideful) it is best that we take a good look around and consider all that we have been blessed with, and then humble ourselves lest we fall, and a great fall it shall be!

This is all a part of examining ourselves and doing as we have been instructed, as we read,

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" 1Peter 5:8

We are not so mighty as sometimes we might think! We all need Jesus!

<![CDATA[ETERNAL PURPOSE!]]>Tue, 10 Oct 2017 11:48:02 GMThttp://carymcquaid.com/daily-devotional/eternal-purposePicture

“According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Ephesians 3:11

Did you know that your life has an eternal purpose in Christ?

In Jesus we live and we have purpose, and that purpose is eternal, having an effect on all of his kingdom and in this world, as we read,

“For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of our own poets have said, for we are also his offspring.” Acts 17:28

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10

Did you know that your life lights the world and preserves it as you live your life for him?

“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light to all that are in the house, Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Mathew 15:14-16

You are that light! You can change the world! God gives to us purpose, a purpose that is beyond ourselves, a purpose that includes others.

His eternal purpose is to seek and to save that which is lost, and our purpose is to be his vessel of righteousness that comes along side of his purpose to save others, to love them, and to offer grace to them.

This is his great commission and our mission, and purpose in life.

<![CDATA[A CALL TO SEVICE!]]>Mon, 09 Oct 2017 12:03:13 GMThttp://carymcquaid.com/daily-devotional/a-call-to-sevicePicture

He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments, and took a towel and girded himself.” John 13:4

So what time is it in your life? The reason why we all need to ask this of ourselves is because the Lord instructs us to be aware of what time it is, and to learn to number our days, as we read David saying,

“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.” Psalm 90:12

And James,

“Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” James 4:14

So what will we do with our life? How much time is left? And how can we do well unto our Lord and King?

These questions are just a few that we can answer by simply following the actions that Jesus took when the hour for him to depart out of this world had come, as we read,

Now before the feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.” John 13:1

We see here Jesus fully aware of what time it was, and how many days he had left, taking some of his final actions of love, beginning by serving those he loved by washing their feet.

On this day take time to think of what your final actions of love might be. What plans of love will you implement while you still have time here on earth? And most importantly where will you and your loved ones go when the time here on earth is over?

First and foremost salvation is our number one priority, it is an act of love to reach out and lead our loved ones to Jesus, secondly that we all realize what time it is and all the events that are happening around us, and finally we must know what we all must do TODAY and the days that remain to serve others in the love of Christ Jesus.

<![CDATA[STAY CLOSE TO JESUS!]]>Fri, 06 Oct 2017 08:42:18 GMThttp://carymcquaid.com/daily-devotional/stay-close-to-jesus1380422Picture

 Stay Close To Jesus!

"Ye shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.” Deuteronomy 13:4

Well, it is one thing to believe in Jesus, and an entirely different challenge to cleave to him as you believe. To walk after Jesus is to walk in his footsteps, to do the things that he did, such as having compassion upon the multitudes and preaching the word wherever he went. To cleave to him is not only walking the walk and talking the talk, but it is to stick to him and adhere to his words.

We are to be like glue that is stuck to our Master. We should obey and serve despite how the world views us.

Love for the world always works to separate us from Jesus, so we always have to be on guard and not allow anything in this world to keep us from loving Him. If we are sticking close to Jesus then we will never be separated.

The command to cleave to him is for our own good so that our enemy who desires to sift us like wheat does not devour us. Why be so heavenly minded, so zealous for God, and so close to Jesus? Because the devil wants to separate us and pull us apart from God in order for us to serve him instead of Jesus.

It has been said, All we like sheep have gone astray, this happens because just like sheep we keep our heads down instead of looking at Jesus and cleaving to Him, we forget to ask ourselves, where am I, am I cleaving closely to Jesus today?

Focus On Jesus!

<![CDATA[GROWING UNTO MATURITY!]]>Tue, 03 Oct 2017 11:53:57 GMThttp://carymcquaid.com/daily-devotional/growing-unto-maturity4790003Picture

"And I brethren, could not speak unto you, as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able." 1Corithians 3:1, 2

Many have received and understand the first principles of Christianity, the acceptance of Jesus into their heart, the Baptism by immersion, and the first principles of prayer and praise, but all too often there is little or no follow-up or continuance in the study of the word towards maturity.

Paul is talking to the Corinthians in a way that is scolding them a little because he had been so long with them, yet they did not take the extra steps to show a motivation or desire towards growth. They were proud of their knowledge and the amounts of the Bible that they knew, but the application of the word of God was absent.

They were still arguing and fighting, biting and devouring each other, and not walking in unity or maturity. Gossip and evil intent still filled their hearts even while they were calling themselves Christian. In fact, they were Christian, but babes in Christ, still drinking from the bottle and not yet eating the meat of the word of God and putting love into action. In all things there is a training period, but there is also a time in which we are to move to the next level.

Having studied the words of Christ and partaken in the wisdom of God it is now time to apply it to our lives and be doers of the word. As it is written,

"But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves." James 1:22
"But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory, both now and forever, amen." 2Peter 3:18
Father, forgive us our sins and let us grow in grace and maturity and love, so that we are forever united together with you.
Thank you Jesus, you are Holy, and true. Amen!

<![CDATA[GOD DELIGHTS IN YOU!]]>Sun, 01 Oct 2017 11:31:29 GMThttp://carymcquaid.com/daily-devotional/god-delights-in-you1505763Picture

"For the Lord God will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know I shall not be ashamed." Isaiah 50:7

The scrolling banner reads, "I HAVE SET MY FACE LIKE A FLINT!" Can you say this? Are you taking a stand for what you believe? There will be times in your life that you will have to take a stand and stand therefore having put on the whole armor of God. Unfortunately, there are some powers out there that would love to see us fail, this is a fact and the old phrases "buck up" or "take the bull by the horn" are required. The reaching down inside for a bit more stubbornness and refusal to quit is necessary.

This is the message that needs to be sent and God is with you! Just like a tree planted by the waters I shall not be moved. What a horrible message for our adversary! Just when it seemed that he might be prevailing, we come back with a powerful punch! God is powerful! Take heart a new thing is coming to you as we speak.

God is at work and re-enforcements have been dispatched into this fight. Stand firm and let God take the wheel! The shame shall be redirected and this egg shall be on your adversary's face. Remember the stone in which the builders have rejected? This stone has become the chief cornerstone, Jesus is this stone that has been rejected so many times!

"And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder." Luke 20:17, 18

God is on your side, he has seen your struggles and pains. Stand strong because he will not allow you to be put to shame! Today, put your enemies on official notice by saying.

Let God help you today by letting go and giving the battle to him.

You Shall Not Be Moved!

<![CDATA[HEALING WATERS!]]>Wed, 27 Sep 2017 08:37:57 GMThttp://carymcquaid.com/daily-devotional/healing-waters8501325Picture

"Then said he unto me, these waters issue out toward the east country, and go down into the desert, and go into the sea: which being brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be healed." Ezekiel 47:8

These healing waters are a continuous flow. They are not a standing puddle that fails to move. They flow and have been flowing since the creation of all things. These waters come from the temple, the church, and the Holy Bible.

They are the words of God and they heal everything from a sad heart unto the most corrupt society that exists. The words of Jesus will never be stopped and will always bring life and healing, as we read,

“But the word of the Lord endures forever. Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.” 1Peter 1:25

God’s word reveals to us the deep hidden mysteries of God and the mind of the Lord. They are like no other, and they are rich in wisdom and love, God's wisdom and God's love, that the natural man could never understand.

Freely they flow without the efforts of generators or any such power of man's machinery, instead they are issued out by the power of God and his Holy Spirit to bring healing and comfort unto to all nations in every corner of the world.

Come to Jesus and allow the flow of his healing waters to come into your heart and life today! The troubles from all past and present hurts and pains shall be washed away!

"O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? Or who hath been his counselor?" Roman 11:33, 34

Jesus is that living water that forever flows, always on the move, always healing wherever it goes. The word of God never returns void, but it always accomplishes all that it is sent to do. Jesus has a healing word for you!

Jesus is the way to healing!

<![CDATA[GRACE AND MERCY!]]>Fri, 22 Sep 2017 08:42:05 GMThttp://carymcquaid.com/daily-devotional/grace-and-mercyPicture

"Ye have heard that it hath been said, an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth, But I say unto you, that ye resist not evil:" Mathew 5:38,39a

In our day it might be said a bit differently, sayings such as, "PAYBACKS ARE AN ISSUE!!!" have the same meaning though, they are all about vengeance and rendering payback or evil unto someone that has done wrong. In these cases the person who desires payback is taking the law into their own hands and have decided that the best way to solve and issue is revenge!

This revenge never accomplishes anything good and some people just don't care about that!

So the question then becomes, How far can this go? Can it ever be enough to satisfy?

Friend this is why Jesus came, this is why his grace is so powerful! Because enacting the law with revenge at heart cannot heal, it cannot bring justice, and it just can't fix the heart and the pain that someone might feel. Jesus knows this, and for this cause he tells us to take a different course of action when wrong occurs to us.

The only true healing and true justice is not by revenge, here we read, "An eye for an eye" and in Exodus even more, as it is written,

"Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot. Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe." Exodus 24:24, 25

See here, this revenge can go on and on without end, never being enough to satisfy the hurting heart of the offended. So now, where the law is weak and insufficient to satisfy, Jesus takes over in order to heal the heart of the victim and to offer grace and forgiveness to the offender, so that neither party will turn to stone.

Where the law stops, mercy and grace begin, without mercy and grace the heart fails, it hardens and becomes stony, restricting the proper blood flow throughout the arteries that delivers blood to the necessary areas of the body, as it is written,

"His heart is as firm as a stone; yea as hard as a piece of Nether stone." Job 41:24

Without grace and mercy the heart becomes stony and eventually dies! Revenge is not the way, as we read,

“But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.” Mathew 5:39

And again…

“Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.” Romans 13:4

We only hurt ourselves if we seek to hurt another as payback for what we feel they have done to us. Justice is better served when we are happy within ourselves for overcoming evil with good!

<![CDATA[THE WORD OF GOD CAME!]]>Sun, 17 Sep 2017 12:43:15 GMThttp://carymcquaid.com/daily-devotional/september-17th-2017 Picture

“In the Priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came unto John the Son of Zacharias in the wilderness.” Luke 3:2

So where exactly was John when he received this word of God? Was he in the Priesthood, or a part of the Priesthood, and were they in the temple, or all in the wilderness together? We can wonder about these questions, reasoning within ourselves what the answers may be, but if we search the word of God we find that John was with God in the wilderness, desert of Judea, and similar to this David and others were also alone with God when they received the word of God about their situations and callings, As we read,

As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.” Luke 3:4

“And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and shouted for the battle.” 2Samuel 17:20

See it was during the time of the Priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas that this occurred, but the reference indicates that John was a part of their Priesthood and at some time a partaker of this ministry, and God chose to speak to him in the wilderness of Judea because of his close relationship to God.

Imagine how much more we would actually hear from God if we were to press in to God to be closer to him! Many times as Christians we want to hear from God, but we only need to get closer to God and be a part of His Priesthood so that we will hear from him. If we are stray sheep, distant followers, or part-time pursuers how then can we expect to receive all that God desires for us?

When we draw near to God he will draw near to us and show us great and mighty things, as we read,

“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” Jeremiah 33:3

God will send his word to you and heal your land, as we read,

“Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses. He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. Psalm 107:19, 20

Get closer to God and the word of God will come to you!
