"After these things Jesus went over the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias. And a great multitude followed him, because they saw His miracles which He did on them that were diseased. And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples." John 6:1-3
IN JESUS TODAY!
First over the Sea and then up into a mountain - Q: Was it really a time for a get-away vacation? Not hardly! This was all with a working purpose, Jesus wasn't trying to hide away from the people, he was simply trying to talk with His Father. Sometimes we are not to be running away, as a selfish person would when thinking only of themselves, but rather we ought to be going to a higher source for supply. Why did Jesus go over the Sea and up into the mountain? He wanted to talk alone with God, this has a working purpose, to get direction, to get supply, to talk things over and find God's wisdom and advice on what to do, not to run and hide away from responsibility, not to relax and take a break, but for the people, always Jesus is at work for the people. Next, - "When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, He saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat? And this he said to prove him: for He himself knew what he would do." John 6:5,6 Here is the evidence that Jesus was at work and not on vacation, for if he was on vacation, why then would he be in prayer for these matters? When he saw a great multitude come unto him, he didn't say, "awe man, I was just trying to take a break" as some of us might have done if our time had been interrupted, instead Jesus is always thinking of others and therefore always at work.
Jesus asked this to Philip to test him, "Whence shall we buy bread that these may eat?" And he asked this only to test Philip: for He himself knew what he would do. In the upcoming devotions we will look into what Jesus was testing him for and why, so that we may see the answers and better understand when this happens to us. Jesus already knows what he will do! Jesus never takes a vacation! He takes time to pray to God for us! Take some time to pray today!
