“BE ANGRY, BUT SIN NOT!”
“Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another. Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil. Let him that stole steal no more, but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.” Ephesians 4:25-28
IN JESUS TODAY:
Christians are to be different, we are to love people, and set the standard, different in many ways. God gives to us instructions that will protect us and also set us apart from the rest of the world to be examples to them of how God wants all people to be. We are to tell the truth always, to be united as one body or group of people, to be truthful in our speech, and to walk in a new life, different than the life of the world. No lying, no exaggeration, no cheating, only walking in the truth. There are drastic consequences to all that live a lie, as we read,
“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Revelation 21:8
The devil is the Father of all lies, and therefore the Father of all liars. Lying is first addressed here in this passage, but God warns us of another dangerous disease that some can be infected with and it is “inappropriately used anger.” God warns us about this also.
LIES AND ANGER…
Anger can be like a loaded gun. God knows this that in the hands of the unqualified, or inexperienced, or the unrestrained user anger can be a weapon that can be devastating. Out of control anger can cause damage to us and to others that can ruin our lives, and the lives of others in its path. So right out of the gate God gives this instruction, “Be angry, but sin not!” Be angry over the things that offend God, such as sin, not what offends you alone, as we read,
“Ye that love the Lord, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints: he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.” Ps 97:10
Another thing is, Deal with your anger now! Don’t let it simmer over night. Anger often grows, and many will think that it disappears or it goes away if forgotten, that old saying “Let me sleep on it!” Does not apply with anger, because anger grows into bitterness, and then to resentment until it is finally released at its most dangerous stage. Talk about what your anger is about before it is allowed to grow.
LYING AND ANGER: ADDRESS THESE TWO THINGS AND IT WILL MAKE US MUCH BETTER CHRISTIAN EXAMPLES TO A LYING AND ANGRY WORLD!
