“But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, and went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.” Luke 10: 33, 34
IN JESUS TODAY!
The Harvest is ripe! There are so many people in the world that are wounded. What shall we do? Many have decided to do as these two in this chapter, speaking of the Priest and the Levite, who passed by this wounded man as though he was not there, totally ignoring him as he lay there wounded and without. Ignoring the hurting seems to be more common in today’s world also, but as Christians we have an obligation to one another to reach out and to lend a helping hand. As sin in this world abounds the heart waxes cold for many. Many purposely do not want to feel anything. Having no emotions at all they pass by from day to day failing to nurture relationships, failing to care for the hurting, and failing to realize the consequences of what I call Zombie(ism), a state of heart and mind that becomes desensitized and oblivious to the world around them, unless of course these are only on social media where people are more real to them! These will easily pass by the wounded focused only on themselves! What can we do? As people that care about their fellow person we are hopefully instructed to become more like this Good Samaritan and do all to restore the wounded by binding up their wounds, and helping them to stand strong again, and not just to stand only and send them on their way, but more than this, we ought to help them to stand, taking care of them by providing their need. This is what a Samaritan does!
Today the Harvest of the wounded is ripe, there are many that need our help, yes right here in our country, city, neighborhood, and around the world. What a golden opportunity to show the love of Jesus to others by caring for them in their times of need!
WHEN YOU SEE THEM, HAVE COMPASSION ON THEM!
