"And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. For which of you intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he hath sufficient to finish it." Luke 14:27, 28
IN JESUS TODAY!
Do we have what it takes? What does it take anyways? It only takes believing and following Jesus right? Only is not only, as in, only one time, only one day, or only one test, or only one trial! This is much more than that! Bearing our cross means daily following Jesus even when we don't feel good about it, in good weather and bad, always pressing forward, being steadfast and unmovable in our faith, yes, and even when other things, or other people are telling us to quit! Following Jesus includes counting the cost to follow him! There is a cost to following Jesus, it requires that we deny ourselves the worldly pleasures and riches that are so often gained by those who do not follow him, it requires sacrificing our time and resources for the benefit of others, and for the advancement of the Kingdom of Heaven, and it requires that we relinquish control of our lives, submitting unto Jesus so that he is in control. The questions that we now have to answer are these: Have we sat down and counted this cost, and are we ready to surrender to Jesus? We must realize that we need to be prepared for this if we intend to go to heaven when it is our time. Sure, it is easy on the surface to claim things like, "All for Jesus, I surrender all", and it is easy to tell Jesus and others that we believe, but are we prepared to back this up by staying the course through it all, unto the end, enduring hard times, and keeping the faith every day? If so, let us follow Jesus together and count the cost, lest we begin to follow, and deceive ourselves, whether we have sufficient to finish or not.
Sure, there will be times when we fall short, there will be times when only God's grace will get us through unto the next day, but the important thing is that we stay the course, and count the cost, accepting his way every day!
