“And he came near and he kissed him, and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of the field which the Lord hath blessed." Genesis 27:27
IN JESUS TODAY!
We are now down to the last of our five reporters, seeing, hearing, touching, tasting, and finally smelling. These are the reporters that send to us information throughout the day. Herein we find Jacob and the famous plan of deception devised to steal the birthright from Esau his brother. Isaac their Father, was growing old and his eyes were dim, he couldn't see so that he could not easily tell the difference between his two sons, Jacob and Esau, so Rebekah, Jacobs mother, heard that it was time to give the birthright blessing to Esau before Isaac’s death, so she devised a plan for Jacob to steal the blessing before Esau returned home.
REBEKAH’S PLAN AT WORK…
This plan of deception worked because of these five reporters and the lack thereof. Jacob took on the appearance of Esau for the plan to work, he put hair on his hands and he put the smell of the field on his clothing, while his mother prepared some venison for Jacob to bring Isaac, just as Isaac had requested Esau to do.
The eyes were dim, the touch was deceived, and the taste and smell all seemed so familiar to Isaac that he gave Esau's birthright unto Jacob, his other son. Like the other reporters, we see that smell can deceive us also. Again, we cannot leave our trust to our senses (reporters), we must place all of our trust in God's truth.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not to your own understanding. In all of your ways acknowledge the Lord and he will direct your path." Proverbs 3:5, 6
