"Then said the Lord unto me, Go yet, Love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the Lord toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine." Hosea 3:1
IN JESUS TODAY!
Did you know that you were bought back from slavery with a price? From the straying away from the one true God, you have been ransomed. Released from captivity by payment! Jesus has paid the price by thirty nine stripes and the crucifixion and here we see God commissioning Hosea to subscribe to a similar example of this buy-back process for the sake of showing others how grace and mercy should be. Hosea was instructed to take his adulteress wife back and in order to do this he had to pay a price. To receive her back he paid fifteen pieces of silver, a homer of barley, and a half homer of barley, which by the way, interestingly equals thirty shekels, yes the same price that was paid to Judas to betray Jesus in Mathew 26:15. As we read, "And he said unto them, what will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver." Have you ever considered what price you might gain by turning away from God? Hopefully not! Have you ever considered what it cost to bring a person back to the Lord? This example of Hosea buying back his unfaithful wife is given to us that we might consider God's goodness toward us. Jesus bought us back with a price, the goodness of a great king that will never be matched, giving his all, even his own life to purchase us from the captivity of sin.
Even in our unfaithfulness and adultery towards him, Jesus died for us, as it is written,
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8 He died to bring us back, to pay the ransom and purchase us from an evil master that desired our death. So that we might never leave him again!
God's goodness will never be matched, none can compare!
