"And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, "Arise and Eat." 1 Kings 19:5
IN JESUS TODAY!
Now Elijah had been through a tremendous difficulty and was ready to quit life, even pleading with God to take his life, saying, "It is enough, now, O lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my Fathers." 1 Kings 19:4 Have you ever been to this place where you are throwing up your hands in surrender, just wanting the pain to go away, or the troubles to disappear? This is where Elijah was, many were hunting him down to kill him, and he just grew weary and laid down his life before God! What happens when we lay down our life in surrender to God? As it is written, "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it." Mathew 16:25 You see friend, when we are willing to lay down our life for Jesus, when we surrender our life at his throne, and when we collapse at the foot of the cross, not able to go further in our own strength, it's not over! In fact this is where life begins! This is where we will find our life, all be it our new life in Jesus! Now God takes us and begins a new mission, likewise here we see that despite Elijah's request to die, God had another plan, a plan that would required that Elijah forsake all concern for his own life and surrender to God. Listen friend, when Elijah came to this place God revealed to him a new plan, a plan that required him to eat and prepare for a journey! This "Arise and Eat" that we read here is a calling code for a new ministry, a new mission, we can see this again in Acts chapter 10 at the start of Peters ministry, as we read, "And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth: Wherein were all manner of four footed beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. And there came a voice to him, "Rise, Peter, kill and eat." Acts 10:11-13
Friend if you are at your wits end, if you have come to that place where there seems to be no hope, if you are wanting to end it all, stop right where you’re at and lay down your life before Jesus, and give him a chance, then he will say to you, "Arise and Eat!" He has a mission for you!
