"Then was Jesus led up of the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil." Mathew 4:1
IN JESUS TODAY!
Is temptation sin? Conventional wisdom tells us things like, "If you get too close to the mud-hole, you might find yourself falling in, and this is true. Conventional wisdom and even wisdom such as Aristotle's "Syllogism" would conclude that we ought to avoid temptation, however there are times that we, even as Jesus was, will be led up into the wilderness to be tempted! The temptation is not the sin! Friends, the sin lies in what you do when you are tempted, one of the most difficult things to do is to explain the appearance of sin, and equally difficult is coming to the place of admitting sin, seldom do people ask," Well what did they do when they were tempted?" Usually they automatically conclude that when one is tempted to sin, they sin! This is not always true! When Jesus was tempted to sin, he did not sin, and we, although we might be tempted to sin, we can resist temptation to sin with the right training in the word, and with the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Because we are led to temptation, or because temptation is placed before us, this does not mean that we must fall into sin!
Turn your eyes upon Jesus every time that temptation is placed before you! Resist temptation through the knowledge of God's word and through the presence of the Holy Spirit in your life! It doesn't mean that we will always be sheltered from the possibility of being tempted, but we can know that through Jesus we can overcome all temptation! The mud-hole may be in our path from time to time, but we can keep ourselves clean from its effects by following Jesus and his righteousness. The blood of Jesus washes us white as snow!
