MUCH IS REQUIRED!
"But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more." Luke 12:48
IN JESUS TODAY!
To accept responsibility a leader must come with the knowledge of what is expected from them. A person that is unaware of the responsibilities of the position and accepts the position regardless, cannot expect that they will not be held responsible, in fact as we read here, "to whom much is given, much is required" Therefore, this person is held to a higher standard! A leader, having understanding, is held to a high level of responsibility, and to accept this leadership position does not allow room for a leader to say, "I didn't know" or "I'm not responsible" If the leader doesn't know they need to find out, because people are depending on them, and the position requires them to know. Some want a leadership position for a variety of reasons, the pay might be better, there is more attention, there is more perks, or it serves their pride well. For them it is good to delegate some of the tasks to others, but the fact still remains, they are responsible, again "to whom much is given, much is required"! Jesus took responsibility, he delegated some smaller tasks to his disciples, but never evaded the responsibility for them. Jesus took full responsibility for our sins and they were laid upon his back! "And with his stripes we are healed" Isaiah 53:5 Jesus paid a high price as our leader, and to be our Lord, he is not our Lord, because he was elected as King, he is not our Lord, because he desired the attention, or some other benefit like free dinners, etc. Jesus is our Lord and King, because he loves us and has compassion upon us, and desired to make a way for us to live with him in heaven!
If a person assumes a leadership position for the wrong reasons, or for selfish gain, when it comes time to make a sacrifice for the souls of others, they will quit or run away from responsibility, seeking self-preservation before self sacrifice! If you have been selected to be a leader, be prepared to assume the responsibility, knowing that "to whom much is given, much is required"!
