TWO BY TWO: ORDINARY PEOPLE!
“Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother: James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Mathew the Publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Labbaeus whose name was Thaddaeus; Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.” Mathew 10:2-4
AS MEN OF HONOR:
Here we see the calling of the first twelve disciples of Jesus. They were to be constant followers. By his side and always learning. The inside four were Peter, Andrew, James, and John, perhaps the more talented by means of calling people to follow Jesus, along with the remaining eight all to be called to become “Fishers of Men”.
These were common men, not heroes of their day, nor winners of any grand lottery, just ordinary men. Jesus chose them to be examples unto the church that anyone that is willing to follow Jesus can be used to serve. So what kind of people can change the world? Chosen disciples are to be Ordinary, humble, and meek, and are to be a candidate for training, as we read,
“Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.” Numbers 12:3
“And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.” 1Timothy 3:10
The lowly supporters, disciples, learners will become confident in Christ. These are not given to novice ideas of fame for themselves, but rather to the hope of glory in Christ Jesus for all people. Always in a state of preparation, and always being prepared for a great work in Christ, they cling together as family, almost never apart from each other, and never apart from Jesus. “Sold Out” as some would say, as volunteers of truth.
GOD GIVEN POWER FROM ON HIGH…
These were given the keys to the kingdom of heaven to know the great mysteries that are kept there. They were all forms of men, teachers perhaps that were now to become learners, receiving from Jesus so that they can give to others the message of His saving grace. These also would receive power from on high, as we read,
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost parts of the earth.” Acts 1:8
That it will be known by all that these are ordinary people called to do extraordinary things by the wisdom, and power that they receive from God. That no man or woman could take credit for what only God can do. The saving of souls, and the healing of hearts, and lives.
So what kind of people can change the world?
Ordinary people that are will to become followers of Christ!
