THE MEASURE OF A MAN!
“You shall have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure, that your days may be lengthened in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.” Deuteronomy 25:15
AS MEN OF HONOR:
In 2015 a French Comedy Film was created that won many accolades to include, best actor, best film, and best director. The plot is a very important one for life, the main Character Thierry has been unemployed for 18 months, having lost his job as a factory worker. At the age of 51, he lands a new job as a security guard in a supermarket. He tries to make ends meet in working-class France. However, this is not about leaving a legacy. He was measured and compared according to this world’s scale.
In 2012 there was another movie, a Christian drama that was titled the same, “The Measure of a Man” based upon a Father that was seen through the eyes of his daughter. Donald Bailey, who, as a teenager, leaves California and sets out to make his mark on the world. Many years later, during her father’s final moments of his battle with cancer, Elizabeth Bailey recalls pivotal moments in her father’s life, the plot captures the importance of leaving a legacy of love and faith, and shows that in the quest to create a good life for others, one can craft a legacy that lasts much longer than a lifetime. You see there are so many scales that can be used to measure a person’s worth.
THE MEASURE OF A MAN…
Is there hope for those that have made many errors in their life to be measured by a different standard than this world’s standard?
Our God is a just God, he determines all things with a precise accuracy that never fails, and he yields a perfect and just weight in every matter of life. In order for us to do the same, we must understand what it means to have a just measure, and by what means we measure life with. When we measure life, estimate or determine the nature of life, its value, quality, ability, or when we measure the significance of a person, place, or thing, we must make sure that we are using a just scale.
That sounds easy right? Not actually, because there are different standards by which we can choose to measure them by. If we measure life according to many of the standards set in this world, there are many that would walk away from this scale with a less than approved rating, and many that would be a great success, likewise if we are to measure life according to the words of God, then there are many that will walk away with a less than an acceptable rating, and yet a few would be considered chosen as we read,
“There are many called, but few are chosen.” Mathew 22:14
Our worth is not to be based upon this world’s standard, but rather viewed according to God’s perfect law of liberty, as we read,
“For if any be a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in the glass: for he beholds himself and goes his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whosoever looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.” James 1:23, 24
We need to understand what matters most, as we have read, “You shall have a perfect and just weight, and a perfect and just measure” , which is the perfect and just law of our God only!
The measure of a person is determined according to the word of God, which last forever, not the success of this world, which in the end will crumble and fall.
