Where The Heart Waxes Cold! - A Vexing Condition Of The Heart! When we talk about being desensitized to things in our life we must first understand what desensitized means, the following is a definition of the word, as we will see this is an adverse health diagnosis: This ailment is described best when the word is taken in parts, First, DE is the act of reduction. Second, DE sensitize is to lessen the sensitivity. It is to make one indifferent, or unaware in feeling. Now is this how we were created, No we were created in the image and likeness of God our father as we read in Genesis 1:26 “Let us make man in our image and likeness” So this brings us to question, has God, our heavenly father ever been desensitized? Absolutely NOT! In fact he is forever sensitive to our hearts and our sufferings. Now this is exactly the reason why this is so important that we check ourselves to see if we have moved away from our original design and creation and have allowed ourselves to become something that we were never created to be, INSENSITIVE! So if we find that we have become INSENSITIVE to others then we have allowed ourselves to be Desensitized or hardened in the heart.
This is SIN in our lives! Now we have to become DESINSITIZED! Be DE"SIN"SITIZED before we become desensitized. Jesus knew no sin so he was able to be sensitive. Sin puts a wall between us and God, but it also erects a steely curtain around our hearts that prevent us from loving others. We no longer feel, we move quickly from tears flooding the floor (natural) unto tears no more (unnatural), notice that crying is natural, tears are natural and healthy! Jesus Wept! John 11:35 the shortest passage of scripture in the Bible! Jesus wept after seeing Mary weep and the other Jews weeping over the death of Lazarus. Now because Jesus was sensitive to their hurts, and he is sensitive to our hurts also, because he is sensitive he called Lazarus from the grave to live again! When we are crying so is Jesus! He hurts when we hurt! Our Father never wants us to hurt, now some would argue that about testing’s and trials? Yes, it’s true we have tests and trials that are meant to build our faith that we may endure life’s challenges, but God does not intentionally put pain, sickness, tragedy, and terrible hurts into our life, in fact he desires to bind up the broken hearted, as we read, "HE HEALS THE BROKEN HEARTED AND BINDS UP THEIR WOUNDS." PSALM 147:3
One day all our crying will end, as we read, “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:4 So we see for sure that God’s heart is sensitive to our hurts so much so that he wants that pain and suffering be done away with forever! So now let us check our heart, are we sensitive to others as he is to us? When we lose this sensitivity we are careless, literally caring less than we should, we are caring less than what we were created to do. This is becoming desensitized, the heart waxes cold, maybe even bitter, and always not the way that we ought to be. The heart begins to die before the body perishes, the body then physically lives but lives as “The walking dead” where there is no life, love, or concern for life.
Let it be empathy and compassion that rules in our hearts! Walk in another's shoes today and FEEL, FEEL, FEEL their pain. Apathy denied, Empathy delivered! As Christians this is how we should live! If your job is a care giver or care taker you are called to care! As Christian Servants we are all called to care! Caring with a passion is called compassion! Have compassion in a world that has become more and more De-Sensitized!
