Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” Psalm 37:4
AT HIS TABLE!
Every year, maybe at Christmas, certainly each day in prayer, the desires of the hearts of many will include a list. Of course Jesus is always at the top of that list, always first on the list, and rightly so, but the fact is, there is always many other things to follow on that list, behind him, for some it will be a wife or a husband, a job, home, car, healing, finances, or many other cares of this world. Certainly we can say the order is right, as we read,
“But seek ye first, the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Mathew 6:33
A MEANS TO AN END...?
So we are encouraged to seek Jesus first in all things, but how often is this seeking of Jesus just merely a means to an end? The question is, when we pray are we seeking Jesus knowing that this is the formula to get what we want, sort of as some recipe to making what we desire happen, you know the add on(s), or are we seeking Jesus to spend time getting to know Him as our Father, our Lord, our Savior, and friend? Will we go to Jesus to get to know Him as John the beloved disciple did, whereby we find him leaning on the bosom of Jesus? As we read,
“Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.” John 13:23
AT THAT PLACE IN PRAYER…
Are we at that place in prayer where nothing else, save Jesus matters, where we trust that when we focus only on Him all else will be taken care of?
Today in prayer try to remove the Add on(s) and simply ask Jesus to give you more of Him. Try to see Jesus as you are leaning in on His bosom!
