“Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.” 1 Peter 4:16
AT HIS TABLE:
The difference is, where there is shameless suffering there is also joy that leads to victory. Sure life can be painful at times and suffering is never fun, but there is suffering that lowers the head in shame and there is suffering that makes us stand proud and affirms our faith in our great God. It is a sure thing that we will all suffer in life at some time, but it is our attitude, towards it, and how we view suffering, and ultimately our reactions during the times in which we suffer that matters.
OUR WITNESS TO THE WORLD MATTERS…
The Apostle Paul is one of the greatest examples if not the greatest that we have apart from Jesus, he shows us how we ought to expect, receive, and react to suffering as Christians. Now no persons volunteers for it, no person wakes to request it in their day, and no person truly understands all of its benefits while they are going through it. Yet like Paul, we will all suffer for our belief in Jesus. Paul summed it up like this, never ashamed, he said;
“For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written. The just shall live by faith.” Romans 1:16
Additionally even Jesus stated;
“Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Mathew 5:10
And again Paul stated;
“Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day have I been in the deep; In the journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.” 2 Corinthians 11: 25-27
And Paul continued on, as did his sufferings. See here that this was not any suffering that he would be ashamed of, His life was in Jesus!
We will suffer, but not in shame! We will glory, but only in His name!
UNTO JESUS BE THE GLORY!
