“Praise the Lord, who is my rock, He trains my hands for war and gives my fingers skill for battle.” Psalm 144:1
CHAPTER FOUR - (SURRENDER)
Jesus has set the example for us, he has told us to consider His example, and expects that we will follow His example. We read His instructions to us about this, “For consider Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.” Hebrews 12:3, 4 considering the example that we have just witnessed by reading about Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane what shall we do? We shall surrender our will, all of our dreams, hopes, and desires and we shall exchange these for God’s perfect plan for our lives. In prayer the first thing we must be ready to do is to surrender to God’s plan, if we are unwilling to do this then we must ask ourselves the question, “Do we trust God?” If we trust God with all of our heart we will trust that God knows best and it will be easy to surrender to him. At the time God’s plan may not be clear to us, we may have many questions, and we may be hesitant to relinquish control of our life over to God, but although it may not be what we want, or even close to the way that we would do things, we must surrender to God and fully trust him that all things are working towards his perfect plan for us.
Now you may be saying, “What does this have to do with spiritual warfare?” Friend this is the most important thing that we can do when we engage in this spiritual warfare, and why is that? Because it is God that wins the battle for us! We cannot win without him! In fact we will most certainly be defeated should we attempt to do things a way that seems right to us, if that way is not the way that God instructs! As we read, “There is a way that seems right unto man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Proverbs 14:12 We need to surrender our will unto God and trust God that his will is right for us!
