Jesus has paid the price! What price is it that he paid? Jesus paid it all with His own blood. God so loved the world he gave his only begotten son, he died for us! Once for all, it is finished! In times past the priest would pay for the sins of the people every year by offering a blood sacrifice, the blood of bulls and goats, but now Jesus has taken their place and has become the sacrificial lamb. Once for all! Jesus paid the price for our sin debt. Now one might ask, why is there a price for sin? Herein is the answer, “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.” Romans 6:23 There is a cost for sin, we cannot expect to leave a store or a shop without paying, likewise we cannot expect that we shall leave this world without paying for sin, unless… unless someone has paid for us! When a yearly sacrifice was given to pay for the people’s sin-debt the priest would remember this every year and it became a yearly ritual without sorrow and without true fruit of repentance! So let’s look at this closer, first it was required that a priest made the offering for the people. So is Jesus qualified to make this offering? In Hebrews chapter nine starting with verse eleven we learn His qualifications, as we read, “But Christ being come a high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;” See here, Jesus came to us already a high priest! So He is certainly qualified to offer payment for our sins! Not only is He qualified, but His payment is greater than any other before that was given, because He paid it one time and never again is a payment required. Why? “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by His own blood, He entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption.” Hebrews 9:12 Jesus paid it all, Once for all and for eternity!
Now listen to this, yes it gets even better, “For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Hebrews 9:13, 14
