"Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts. And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." Psalm 139:23, 24
AT HIS TABLE:
We cannot say that a person's heart doesn't matter. It's our heart that God will look into. We all have faults, and we all fall short of God's glory, but how do we feel about this? Does it vex our soul? Lot was called righteous, not because he made good decisions, Genesis 18, 19, not because he was perfect, but he was called righteous because he grieved in his heart about his situation while living in Sodom and Gomorrah, as we read,
“And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked.” 2Peter 2:7
How do we feel about our situation? We may be overtaken, surrounded by sin, alone, and weak, but does this vex our soul? Are we doing everything that we can to fix our situation? If so, then God counts it as righteousness. Oh, there will be judges that weigh in as opportunist just waiting for a favorable moment to accuse and to crucify, but those are judges that judge according to the appearance, and not according to the heart. Many like this, would have simply sought to abandon Lot with the whole destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, but Abraham prayed and pleaded and God rescued Lot from destruction.
WHAT GOD CALLS RIGHTEOUS IS…
God is aware that mankind falls short even in the judging of another. It is a wise thing for us all to look into our own heart and then through prayer turn to God and ask him to search us. If we are given over to others for this, it may not be the heart that they are searching.
"Hear my prayer, O Lord, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness. And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight shall no man living be justified." Psalm 143:1,2 Thank God for his righteousness and mercy! God will deliver us, doing unto us according to our faith, and according to our heart!
HEAR OUR HEART O GOD!
