So we now have our loins, our chest, and our feet suited up and prepared for battle, what’s next?
Next, and so very important lies before us the Helmet of Salvation. Why do we need a helmet? A helmet is used to protect our mind, when we come to Christ Jesus we are instructed to be renewed in the mind, having put on the mind of Christ.” (Philippians 2:1-11), we are also instructed to “cast down every imagination that exalts itself against the word of God. “ (2Corinthians 10:5), in addition to this we are told how we ought to think in Philippians 4:8,9 as we read,
“Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do, and the God of peace shall be with you.”
We need the helmet of salvation over our mind so that our enemy’s lies do no infiltrate it. God knows our weakness, and our frailty, and how easily our minds can be pulled away from His truth. God knows that should we fail to protect our mind and allow it to be subjected to attack from our enemy, we will easily fall away from Him, therefore, as with the rest of this armor, God has provided for us this helmet. Now why is it called the Helmet of Salvation? Because God has saved us, but the first line of attack that tries to hit our mind from our enemy is, “Are you really saved, did God really say?” For this reason God has named this helmet appropriately, the Helmet of Salvation!
